During the summer of 2021, a friend of mine was battling mental hardships that led them to act in ways I had never seen before. During certain episodes, it was as if I had never known them. It was an entirely new person that I was interacting with, and didn’t know how to navigate these fluctuations. After a days long episode, they were released from this state for one night.
Our favorite summer activity was going on neighborhood walks so naturally, that’s where we returned for the night, and brought our cameras. It truly felt like a strange dream, reconnecting with a close friend, not knowing when they would re-enter an unrecognizable state. This was the sliver of time we had together that felt “normal”. This photo is from that walk, wandering around uncertain of what’s to come next.
